When Does Life Begin?
Life begins at conception, also known as fertilization.
“Conception begins when a sperm fertilizes an egg and a zygote is formed.”
- Dr. Stuart Campbell, M.D., “Watch Me Grow”, 2004
“As any high school biology text-book will tell us, life begins at conception and ends at death.”
- Sir Albert William Liley, Professor of Perinatal Physiology in the Postgraduate School of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Auckland, The Tiniest Humans, 1977
"As has been known and documented for over a hundred years, and as acknowledged by the International Nomina Embryologica Committee for decades, the immediate product of fertilization (natural or artificial IVF) is a new living human BEING, an individual, an organism. Each of us human beings began as a single cell zygote! This is a basic objective scientific fact.”
– Dr. Dianne N. Irving, M.A. and Ph.D. scientist, philosopher, Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., Life Issues Institute: clear thinking about Crucial Issues, Jan 16, 2004
